Product Description

Hastelloy X alloy is a solid solution strengthened nickel base superalloy. The main solid solution strengthening elements are Mo, W and Cr, which have good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. The alloy has good high temperature performance and can be used for a long time below 900 °C, and the short-term working temperature can reach 1080 °C. It is mainly used in the manufacture of high-temperature parts such as blades and combustion chamber parts of aero-engines. The damage forms such as thermal cracks and ablation caused by them are now repaired by welding methods. At the same time, HastelloyX alloy is resistant to carbonization and nitridation.

Physical properties

Density: ρ=8.3g/cm3

Melting temperature range: 1260~1355ºC

HastelloyX has the following properties;

good oxidation resistance

Hastelloy X This alloy has good resistance to oxidation, reduction and neutral environments and is suitable for use in furnaces and jet engines operating up to 1200 degrees Celsius. The alloy forms a protective, tough oxide film that does not flake off, thus maintaining oxidation resistance at high temperatures.

Resists carbonization and nitriding

Hastelloy X alloys are resistant to carburizing and nitriding, both of which can lead to superalloy failure.

Good high temperature strength, good formability and weldability

Hastelloy X alloy has good manufacturability. The work hardening rate of this alloy is comparable to that of austenite. The machinability in the annealed state is good. This alloy can be welded by most fusion and resistance. Hastelloy X alloys can be produced by AOD refining or vacuum induction melting. Vacuum arc or electroslag remelting, procedures can be used to further refine the material.

Stress corrosion cracking resistance

Hastelloy X alloy has a lower thermal conductivity than common alloy stainless steel and requires a larger gap when using standard grooves to ensure full penetration of the weld. Spot welding requires relatively long welding times and water cooling to form a complete nugget and avoid coring or corrosion isolation and distinguish between seam welds that require intermittent drive operation to facilitate welding with maximum forging pressure, eliminate cracks, maximize reduce deformation. Fusion welding has high ductility, and it is recommended to use TIG welding for sheets below 3.2MM and MIG welding for sheets above 3.2MM. Hastelloy X can also be brazed alloys using appropriate procedures and brazing alloys. Large or complex fusion welds are usually subjected to stress relief heat treatment.

Hastelloy X Melting Process:

Hastelloy X alloy can use electric arc furnace + electroslag or non-vacuum induction furnace + electroslag remelting process. Castings are produced by remelting the mother alloy in an induction furnace and then pouring it into a heated mold shell.

Hastelloy X Forging Process:

The heating temperature of Hastelloy X alloy plus forging is 1170ºC±10ºC, and the final forging temperature is not less than 950ºC; the heating temperature of slab hot rolling is 1150ºC±10ºC, and the final rolling temperature is not less than 850ºC;

Ring piece heating temperature 1170 ºC ± 10 ºC.

Hastelloy X heat treatment process:

Plate solution treatment: 1150ºC±10ºC, 2~15min, rapid air cooling.

Welding parts or flame tube treatment: 980ºC±10ºC, 60min, air cooling.

Stress relief treatment after machining: 870ºC±10ºC, 30~60min, air cooling.

Stable size treatment of parts: 760ºC±10ºC, 2h, air cooling.

HastelloyX application areas:

HastelloyX is widely used in various high temperature environments due to its corrosion resistance in various atmospheres at high temperatures and its excellent high temperature strength.

Industrial and aviation steam turbines (combustors, rectifiers, structural covers)

Industrial furnace components, support rolls, grids, ribbons and radiant tubes

Spiral tubes in petrochemical furnaces

high temperature gas cooled nuclear reactor
