GH500 Overview
GH500 alloy is an aging-strengthened superalloy based on nickel-chromium-cobalt, added aluminum and titanium for precipitation strengthening, and solid solution strengthening with molybdenum. The alloy has good heat-resistant corrosion performance and long-term microstructure stability. The temperature does not exceed 870ºC, and it can reach 980ºC in a short time. It is suitable for the manufacture of turbine rotating parts and load-bearing parts of gas turbine engines. It can be processed into bars, plates, wires, and can also be used as precision castings.

GH500 heat treatment system
The standard heat treatment is as follows: 1120ºC±10ºC, 2h, air cooling +1080ºC±10ºC, 4h, air cooling +845ºC±5ºC, 24h, air cooling, +760ºC±5ºC, 16h, air cooling.

GH500 application overview and special requirements
The alloy is widely used in foreign countries, mainly used in the manufacture of turbine blades and gas turbine blades with a working temperature below 750 °C on aero-engines; domestically, it has been used in aero-engines for grades I and II turbine disks, free turbine disks, labyrinth shafts and Castor teeth seal ring and other parts. The alloy is not suitable for welding.

GH500 process performance and requirements
(1) Formability

The thermal processing performance of the alloy is poor. Before the ingot is opened, it needs to undergo high temperature homogenization annealing. The heating temperature of the ingot is 1160 °C, and the final forging temperature is not lower than 1010 °C; the heating temperature of rolling is 1170 °C , the rolling temperature is not less than 1100ºC, the final rolling temperature is not less than 1050ºC; the heating temperature of the forging billet is 1120-1160ºC, the opening forging temperature is not less than 1140ºC, the final forging temperature is not less than 1000ºC, and the final forging temperature is not less than 1000ºC. The deformation of a fire should be greater than 20%.

(2) Welding performance

The alloy can be welded by the argon arc welding method, using the same material welding wire, and the weld strength after heat treatment is lower than that of the base material.

(3) Heat treatment process of parts

Before heat treatment of the parts, the surface oil and other harmful substances must be removed. The heat treatment process parameters are as follows: Solution treatment: <850ºC into the furnace, rise to 1120ºC±10ºC, 2h, air cooling +<850ºC into the furnace, rise to 1080ºC± 10°C, 4h, air cooling; aging treatment: small parts must be packed in boxes, such as the small turbine disk of the engine, 845°C±5°C, 24h, cooled to 400°C with the protection box, and then taken out from the protection box for air cooling +760 ºC±5ºC, 16h, cool to 400 with the protection box, and then take it out of the protection box for air cooling.

(4) Surface treatment process

In order to remove the oxide scale produced by heating in the atmospheric atmosphere, the following pickling solution can be used: 100 parts of nitric acid + 15.6 parts of 40% hydrofluoric acid, the solution temperature is 21-38 ºC, and the pickling time is 15-90min. Very tight scale can be removed by electrolytic etching.

(5) Cutting and grinding performance

Alloys are generally mechanically processed in a standard heat treatment state; however, drilling and turning processes are best carried out in a solid solution state, and polishing is carried out after aging, and processing is performed at low speed and small feed amount.
