Haynes 230 is a nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum Ni-Cr-W-Mo alloy with excellent high temperature strength, yangation resistance (up to 2100°F), nitriding resistance and long-term stability.
Alloy 230 is a solid solution strengthened material with excellent high temperature strength and good machinability at room temperature.
Hot working properties are similar to those of Inconel 617 and 625. The alloy can be processed with large deformation in the temperature range of 1010-1230 °C, and can be processed with small deformation at 954 °C.
Although the alloy is easily cold worked by conventional processes, the alloy has a high rate of work hardening.
To achieve good results, the alloy should be cold worked under fine-grained conditions and multiple intermediate anneals should be used.
The annealing temperature before processing should be 1066-1149°C to avoid coarse grain structure. Common corresponding grades
